The Blackbox Ensemble is a New York-based new music ensemble devoted to critical engagement in contemporary cultural discourse through creative work. Since its founding in the summer of 2018, the group has performed a wide range of works from all corners of the contemporary music repertoire, including performance art and new media.
Each Blackbox project treats creative work as a vital vehicle for critical inquiry and performance as a social practice. The curatorial mission behind every Blackbox program is to explore, from different angles, how music can adequately engage and intervene in contemporary social and cultural discourses. In doing so, we are committed to presenting a broad array of work by the diverse artistic voices of our time.
